stringy stools?
« on: April 04, 2010, 08:51:58 AM »
Well, the subject says it all. My stools are stringy once in a while. Looks like literal string is in there with regular stool like its attached to it. Nothings alive or moving its not tape worms lol... But I'm very nervous, why do I get this? And sometimes there's like a sticky clear or mucusy gel to it too, like at the end of it, strange. I know its grosss.

Also, this relates to my stomach so ill post this here because it can relate. I get nauseous A LOT. I mean, at random times during the day.. If I even THINK about eating something, I get nauseous. Or if someone is like eating a bagel, I think to myself, what if I was eating that. And I get nauseous, and these bouts don't last a few seconds or a few minutes. This is hourly. What the HELL is my problem? Its like aids or something, I'm serious I'm very nervous about this.

I get that when I take fiber supplements or get a lot of insoluble fiber. The intestines can't digest it so out it comes. Could it be that?

Let me say another thing. I've had these stomach issues for years now. I don't gain weight for my life. As far as my DR's concerned, I'm a healthy 22 year old. I googled stringy stools and stuff, and it said parasites and worms, and how it can lead to severe infection and death and being nauseous is a symptom. Its like me all the time. I'm very nervous. 7 years with worms and I'm still alive?

I'm not trying to make a joke or anything bc of the 20 ft tapeworm, I really am nervous. It hasn't gotten worse in 7 years though.

I have had stringy stools and I am sure I don't have parasites (or didn't at the time) because I got tested for them. The test is easy but gross. You could ask your Dr. for it. Parasites sound disgusting but even if you had one it isn't a big deal. I'm an anthropology PhD student, and believe me, my fellow students have gotten some nasty things in the field in the middle of nowhere, and it STILL isn't a big deal, so don't worry about that.

My stomach problems were at their worst 3 years ago, when I was writing my doctoral exams and under a tremendous amount of stress. I notice that they come back again when I am stressed. Anxiety has a huge effect on these things, unfortunately.

Have you been to the Dr.?  They can test your stools.  I'm sure nothing is wrong, but it might put your mind at ease.

Also, anxiety causes you to be naseous.  I went through a really bad time of anxiety over the Holidays, and I lost a bunch of weight.  I felt like I was going to barf every single day...lol.  It was horrid!  I couldn't eat at all, and just looking at food made me sick.  Also, is the "string" mucousy?  Or is it actual string?  Mucous can be in stool sometimes and separate from it, and look a like string, but that's normal.  I know...yuck!

Your symptoms sound similar to my mom's. She has Irritable Bowel Syndrome....often causes the same symptoms you mentioned. I have had mucus in my stool lately and it's pretty gross, not all the time, but once and a while. I'm nervous about it too and would like a colonoscopy, but the dr.'s think I"m crazy.

Mucus is pretty common with IBS and nothing to worry about, or at least that's what I was told by a GI specialist. That could totally be what it is.

I definitely get the whole mucus thing. It's gotten a lot better since starting my little fiber regimen. I take 4 fiber choice tablets, that's soluble fiber, a day. Plus I start the day with a cup of bran. I'm no longer getting nausea or upset stomach everyday, so something seems to be working. I totally recommend fiber supplements if you haven't tried it already.

I don't take fiber tablets but I want too. I should start though bc I'm nervous. Sometimes there's like a fog around the stool like a grey white fog. Its so strange...? And the stringiness every once in a while is just wierd.

I had parasites. You could very well have parasites. They will f*** you up. I got really sick over the easter holiday and it took a week of doctor and hospital visits (they missed everything) before out came the worms.

1 in 6 people have them and don't know. But to worry about it is doing you know good. You can eat a piece of steak tomorrow and start showing symptoms of the parasite 10 years later. They can be deadly and very harmful but more for people in underdeveloped countries. I did my homework on these bad boys. Keep vitamin C in your system, garlic, some probiotics and fiber and you'll be okay.

If you think it could be parasites there is a product called Parastroy. It's all natural, nothing but herbs, spices and extracts from nature. Unless you have any specific food alergies it really can't hurt. It makes your stool look a little strange and you need to drink a gallon of water throughout the day but within 5 days of taking the Parastroy I slept for the first time in 2 weeks.

 Good luck.
