This totally sounds like Gerd. Have you tried antacids to relieve it? If antacids relieve your symptoms, it's Gerd.

Yeah, it does come back sometimes. The good thing is that it does work for you. Maybe you might want to check with your doctor about it. I have heard of people who are on Prilosec (or like) long term, but I do think you must be under a doctor's care for it.

Do you have gerd? If so, what were your symptoms and are you taking anything for it?

Yep, and have had all the same symptoms as you. I take the Walmart brand of Omeprazole (Prilosec). I have done as long as three 2-week treatments at a time. I sometimes have to do another round a few months later. If I have some reflux in between, I use Tums.
I have not been DX formally, btw. But when I first tried the Omeprazole about a year ago, it worked like a charm so I knew that's what it was.

Also, keep in mind that many experience rebound acid reflux because rarely are you told that you should actually taper off.

I read about a study that up to 40% of participants experienced rebound acid hyper secretion- some had such strong acid reflux, that it was either worse than when they started or an entirely new set of symptoms.

Today, I experienced burning in my chest but it was due to anxiety. I thought "wow, I feel good today" and then that thought went to "what if I get sick?" to uh oh, I'm getting sick. Then BAM! Chest burning.

If you didnt mention that chest burning, I'd say gastritis because I can relate to all other symptoms.

That's true. Since you are stopping the acid pumps in your stomach when you're taking Omeprazole, when they get turned on again full force, it stands to reason you'd have a lot of acid. Tapering off seems like the smart thing to do. I don't think that is listed on the package, either on the OTC kind.

Yea im also thinking that its rebound reflux since it got worse after finishing prilosec.

How r u doing now with the burning?

I took Prilosec, prescription strength for a few days, then went to Zantac, then for weeks I clung to a combo of mylanta, tums, pesto and an occasional Prevacid. I went cold turkey on Sunday night and ever since then I've had constant burning and much more belching along with indigestion.
I don't want to go back to anything, even Prevacid, but this lump like feeling in my throat is causing nausea.

How r u feeling now? 😉

Hey. Im still getting constant burning. Its not severe as before buy i still get it everyday. I also developed lump in throat and constant burping like you. Do you have gerd and is that why you took prilosec? I think what we're experiencing is rebound acid because i never had these symptoms before i took prilosec. Im seeing a gi dr next month so hopefully i'll get answers.

CM, the docs suspected I had gastritis due to taking a bunch of  aleve on an empty stomach for a few weeks.

They gave me 40mg worth of Prilosec to take. I only took that for a few days, then went to 20mg then quit that cold turkey. For my tummy problems, I would take pepto, mylanta, and a bunch of tums throughout the day.
That has prob been for over a month or so. On Sunday when I quit cold turkey off of that, indigestion and burning was bad.

I drink ginger tea with honey and that helps. It makes me burp and reduces the burning. I gave in today and took some tums. I also took a Prevacid which I didn't want to do but I was pretty bad today.

I also have an appt with a GI doc next month, but I'm hoping this will resolve itself and I won't have to go cuz I don't want to get an endoscopy.
I have noticed that if I eat any dairy, I'll be hurting even more. I've learned to stay away from that.

Do you have nausea? R u taking anything for it right now?

and yes, I've never had these symptoms b4.

Typically things like mylanta and pepto dont cause rebound acidity, but tums can. In addition, I've been taking them ALL  for over a month and a half now, so my tummy isn't used to all this acid.

The lump in the throat makes it difficult to swallow. I also have diarrhea that coincides with really bad indigestion.

This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes i have occasional nausea but i drink ginger ale. The burping sucks cuz its constant and sometimes the burp gets stuck in my throat and i have to cough it out. My dr wanted me to double on prilosec and i was like hell no lol so he referred me to gi specialist. I also have allergies so i hope the lump in throat and mucus is caused by that and not acid. I regret taking prilosec in the first place cuz i wouldnt be dealing with all this in the first place
