Introduce Yourself

Welcome to Anxiety Zone!. Anxiety Zone is a community-operated support group for people living with anxiety disorders. Please come on in and introduce yourself to us. We'd love to hear your story and get to know you! :-).

The Lounge

Inspiration Place

Poetry, religion, art, music, reading, writing, people, places and things that inspire you, etc.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Discussion of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Generalized Anxiety Disorder is a disorder characterized by chronic anxiety, exaggerated or excessive worry and tension, even when there is little or nothing to provoke it.

Hypochondria (Health Anxiety)

Discussion of Hypochondria also known as "health anxiety". Hypochondria is a belief that real or imagined physical symptoms are signs of a serious illness, despite medical reassurance and other evidence to the contrary. Such a person may repeatedly look up symptoms on the internet and become convinced that they have at least some (or all) of them ("Cyberchondria").

Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia

Discussion of Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia. Panic attacks are sudden episodes of overwhelming anxiety or fear. Agoraphobia occurs when the person is anxious about being in a place or situation where they might have a panic attack and be unable to escape.

Clinical Depression

Discussion of Clinical Depression. People with depression often experience intense feelings of sadness, fatigue and guilt. They often feel lonely, isolated, helpless, worthless and may lose interest in the activities they once enjoyed.

Specific Phobias

Discussion of Phobias. A phobia is a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object (spiders, snakes, etc) or situation (crowds, open spaces, etc). Accompanying this fear is a strong desire to avoid the object or situation.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Discussion of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a disorder that often develops after exposure to a life-impacting event in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent assaults (ie; rape), natural disasters, accidents, or military combat.

Social Anxiety Disorder

Discussion of Social Anxiety Disorder. Social Anxiety Disorder is a fear of being embarrassed, humiliated or judged in social situations. Because of this fear, the person with Social Anxiety Disorder often experiences the physical symptoms of anxiety and thus tends to avoid or limit social interaction.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Discussion of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a disorder characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions). Repetitive behaviors such as handwashing, counting, checking, or cleaning are often performed with the hope of preventing obsessive thoughts or making them go away. Performing these so-called "rituals," however, provides only temporary relief, and not performing them markedly increases anxiety.

Other Mental Health Issues

This forum is for the discussion of other (non-anxiety) mental health conditions such as Multiple Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Attention Deficit Disorder, etc. The discussion of treatments, side effects and success stories are also welcome here.

Sleep Disorders

Discussion of Sleep Disorders. Sleep disorders often coexist in individuals with anxiety-related disorders, due to the condition itself, as a side affect of treatment or as a result of addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. Here we focus on Insomnia (inability to get to sleep, stay asleep or waking too early), Nightmares, Sleep Terrors, Sleep Paralysis, Sleepwalking, Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), Sleep Apnea and Periodic Limb Movement Disorder.

Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Discussion of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Fibromyalgia causes tiredness, muscle pain and "tender points." Tender points are areas of the neck, shoulders, back, hips, legs or arms that are painful when touched. Individuals with fibromyalgia often experience other symptoms as well, including difficulty sleeping, morning stiffness, headaches and problems with thinking clearly or remembering things (sometimes called "fibro fog"). Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) include fatigue and other symptoms such as muscle pain, memory problems, headaches, joint pain, sleeping difficulties, sore throat and tender lymph nodes.

Digestive Disorders

Discussion of Digestive Disorders. Conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Gastritis and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) often occur in people diagnosed with anxiety disorders. In addition to these conditions, please feel free to discuss other gastrointestinal conditions such as Lactose Intolerance, Heartburn, Ulcerative Colitis, Peptic Ulcers and Crohn’s Disease.

Medications and Therapy

Discussion of Medications and Therapy used to treat anxiety disorders. Feel free to share your success stories here too!. Click here for prescription drug information.

Addiction and Recovery

Do you suffer from drug, nicotine or alcohol addiction?. People suffering from anxiety disorders, depression or other related conditions often self-medicate and find themselves trapped in a vicious cycle of addiction.

Relationship Issues

Do you ever feel like other people just don't understand you?. Are you the "black sheep" of the family or the "fifth wheel on the wagon" at social events?. How does your anxiety-related disorder effect your relationships?. Many people like us tend to feel judged, misunderstood and ostracized by others. If only people would take the time to get to know us a little better.

You can create as many articles as you like and they can be about anything you want (ie; your pets, cooking, gardening, sports, poetry, health, etc). An article is different than a blog in that a blog is an online journal or diary of your daily life whereas an article is a story based on a topic you know something about such as "How to prepare a taco salad" or "Starting a flower garden".
