« on: September 02, 2014, 07:33:09 PM »
Its a discomfort, pressure sort of thing and sometimes pain when breathing in heavy? It doesn't bother me when I breathe normally but when I rru to breathe heavy to check the pain I feel it.
Is this common with anxiety?

Bad breathing habits cause breathing pain. You overwork certain muscles that are not made for what you are forcing them to do. When you are conscious about your breathing you force it. This is why alot of people with anxiety get neck pain because they use some muscles in the neck to force their breathing. Bad breathing habits from anxiety can give you pain in your chest, back, shoulders, neck, throat and ribs. Breath normally.

Hi Marie and Raawr,

On the topic of breathing and trouble breathing - I found some information, that may or may not apply, but I thought it was very interesting:
Since it is not recognized and diagnosed by too many doctors, it is often overlooked...  But, it is very common among people like us have that have experienced Panic or Anxiety Attacks...

Chronic Hyperventilation Syndrome

Dizziness accompanied by a lot of other seemingly unrelated symptoms, which might include any of the following:

•   shortness of breath for no apparent reason
•   frequent sighing or yawning
•   chest pains
•   heart palpitations
•   sweating
•   syncope (fainting)
•   dizziness
•   trembling
•   slurred speech
•   cold, tingling, or numb lips or extremities
•   nausea or irritable bowel syndrome
•   aching muscles or joints, or tremors
•   tiredness, unsteadiness, or diffuse weakness
•   restless sleep, insomnia, or nightmares
•   sexual problems
•   anxiety or phobias
•   fear that perhaps you're a hypochondriac
•   dry mouth
•   pressure in throat or difficulty swallowing
•   bloating, belching, flatulence, or abdominal pain
•   impaired memory or concentration
•   confusion / disorientation
•   tinnitus (ringing in ears)
•   headaches
•   blurred vision, tunnel vision, double vision, or flashing lights
•   tachycardia (rapid pulse)
•   depression
•   erratic blood pressure

If this sounds like something you are experiencing - please take a look at a posting I made today on the possibility you are not getting enough oxygen throughout your system and if you think so, please print some of this information and speak with your doctor about this possibility.

It's certainly common for me.  I've had all the heart tests and my heart is fine.  I think us HA folk are just far more sensitive to the times we are breathing hard.  My wife often has to catch her breath and it doesn't bother her a bit, but with me it kicks up a fight or flight response.

Yes...

My breathing is affected by my thoughts....  Sometimes when I worry and have anxious thoughts my breathing rate will increase.... Even if I am just sitting!

That is how Anxiety works ... You are ok one moment - next moment - my breathing and heart rate might shoot through the roof!    And I am not exercising when this happens!

But... It is very common for people like us that have anxiety disorders.
