eye twitching, not eyelids
« on: August 31, 2014, 07:10:32 PM »
This is scary, has anyone ever experienced just a quick "twitch" in their eyes? It happens in less than a second and doesn't effect my vision but it is terrifying.  It's been happening like once a week or less until this month, and it's almost daily. Could it be stress? I had an eye exam and a head CT,  both proved healthy but I don't see the neurologist until next week. Help!

I get something that I could describe as an actual eye twitch, but it's both eyes and my vision "shakes" slightly.  So not exactly the same but they might be related?  It usually seems to come from my being tired.

Yeah, I think it could happen more with tiredness or stress. It's like both eyes just sort of jerk quickly to the side and then they're fine. It lasts less than a second. It's called nystagmus when it's continuous,  but mine is just once in a while.  It's kind of scary.

It sounds like you've started to notice a saccade, an extremely commmon involuntary movement that goes incredibly fast. Faster than you can move consciously. Your eyes dart about like that, in a single burst, many many times a day.

That sounds exactly like what I've experienced but on my go ogling I've just found info on voluntary saccades. Not involuntary like mine.

Hello I've had this for years. Usually comes on when I'm stressed/tired.
My doctor told me it's nothing to worry about unless it's happening constantly and you can't see.

Is it what lunatone said???  I've been getting that since I was about 10 years old.  (I'm 55 now) What happens is my eyes will go back and forth REAL fast for a second.   It usually happens when doing some close work.   When it got to the point I started needing reading glasses it would happen SO much that I had to stop one of my hobbies it was SO annoying!  Once I got glasses it subsided almost totally.  I think it's eyestrain actually. (my idea is that - for ME anyway - trying to look close was overwhelming the eye muscles.)

When I googled it, it came up with Nystagmus so I freaked. But it's not that. It does sound like what Lunatone has said
