What actually IS a resting heart rate?
« on: August 30, 2014, 04:53:31 PM »
So I've become obsessed more than ever with my pulse, partially due to the fact that I got a new phone that checks your pulse. I must have checked it 100 times since yesterday. I feel like my heart rate is always high -- it's ranging from 75 to 113.  I'm considering this my resting heart rate, but when I just Googled "What defines resting heart rate?" I got an answer that says it's when your body is at complete rest. So if I'm up moving around and sit down for a few minutes, then check my pulse, is that actually considered a resting heart rate? Just trying to get some reassurance here. I feel like my resting heart rate is way too high. And because of that, it just sucks me into this viscous cycle of checking and rechecking. Any thoughts??

A normal Heart Rate is between 60-100. If your anxiety is high and in full gear, its natural for your heart rate to go up higher than 100. Its the Fight or Flight response. While completely at rest and depending on how your body is(Athletic or obese), Athletic heart rates can be normal in the 40's or 50's. I wouldn't worry to much about your numbers. They are fine! I used to have the same fear. I used to check my BP and Pulse ALL THE TIME!

I've been 130 at rest when really anxious.  So has my friend.  Your state of mind plays a huge part in heart rate even if you are sitting quietly.
