My Dr prescribed me Ativan a few weeks ago for me to take as needed. I was hoping to get Xanax as I've taken that before. In your opinion, is there any difference between the two? If you've taken Ativan, what was your experience?

Ativan (lorazepam) is slightly longer acting than Xanax (alprozalam), but also a few minutes slower to reach peak blood levels. It is also one of the naturally occurring benzodiazepines. They both do exactly the same thing in the brain, however, some seem to respond better to one than the other though this might be at least partly a placebo effect.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all suggestions are general in nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.
