Weird Virus in the Middle of August
« on: August 22, 2014, 05:25:33 PM »
Hey guys. So lucky me, I'm stuck with some sort of weird virus right in the middle of August. It pretty much just feels like a bad cold; mild fever, nose is really congested, throat is kind of sore, and I have a bit of a headache too. But because of my anxiety, I keep worrying that it's something more :( help please? I've looked up the symptoms for female heart attacks before, and my God, I've been so terrified lately, just because they're so vague.

Sounds like seasonal allergies.  Ragweed is awful here this year.

Allergies have never given me this much of an issue though. I've had allergies to pollen all my life, and I can tell the difference between allergies and a cold. And to my knowledge, allergies don't cause mild fevers. My temperature earlier was 99.8.

An elevated temperature isn't technically considered a fever until it's 100.0, or 100.4 depending on your source. Anxiety can slightly raise  your temperature, it has to me on at least half a dozen occasions. Allergy season is severe this year. Or very likely as you yourself said, is a summer virus. they happen and they are no more remarkable than the winter or fall kind.

As Dr. Cox from Scrubs says "When you hear hoofbeats, think  horsies, not zebras"

Meaning if it acts just like a cold, assume it's something common---a cold! (or in our analogy, a horse) NOT cancer (the zebra)
