Sorry for another post- in panic again
« on: August 22, 2014, 12:13:25 AM »
As I've said before, 4 doctors said I'm okay, 4 CBCs are perfect, etc. Doctor specifically felt for nodes when I told her and said she didn't feel anything swollen. I've been poking my two glands under my neck a lot.
My neck feels puffy or something...like I have a double chin but it appears normal. Anyone had this before?

ugh damn it...why do i google. i read puffy neck can be thyroid problems.
my neck has only felt puffy for a few days on and off...and it feels like it near my glands, not near my thyroid.

My grandmother had thyroid cancer so it is in my family. But she had totally different symptoms (small lump in bottom of neck) and from googling, it doesnt sound like that either.

I just have (all only exist after poking at nodes and glands):
-puffy neck feeling on and off
-feel like lump near tonsils
-acid reflux

I literally have all of those symptoms right now from poking my salivary glands too much yesterday. We both need to leave our glands alone for a week or so and see if the symptoms persist. :-)

Thanks for the reply! That helps. From what I understan, thyroid puffyness would be accompanied with loads of other complications if there truly was an issue and my thyroid area doesn't feel puffy or anything anyways.

But our glands can definitely make it feel that way.  Need to stick to the benign possibilities , which are the most likely

My understanding of thyroid cancer is that it presents with a distinct lump - not a puffiness. It definitely sounds like you've just been poking too much and everything is a bit swollen (which like I said, I've done to myself today, too).

If you can't keep yourself from poking at it, try this trick: Set a calendar reminder to check your neck in two weeks. If it takes a long time to get doc appointments where you are, set one for three weeks from now. Nothing seriously bad will happen to you in 2-3 weeks, even if it was bizarrely cancer.

The calendar reminder is designed to let you relax - you know you'll follow-up on it, so you don't have to worry about it. 99% of the time when the calendar reminder pops up, the symptom I've been worrying about is either better or gone. And if it's not, you've got the appointment already set.

Good idea. Thank uou! And you're right, thaysbhow my grandmothers thyroid cancer developed, and she had hers for many years (very slow growing) and that was the only symptom too.
Plus I just read the puffyness in thyroid issues is an actual puffyness. And my neck is extremely skinny.

My doctor also just checked out my entire neck and felt nothing. You're right, we are probably just poking things too much.
