Spitting up blood
« on: July 14, 2014, 12:47:45 PM »
I was just in the shower and kept having this nasty taste in my mouth like blood. I spit to see and there was nothing but clear spit. So I hocked up like I was trying to hock a loogie (sorry it's nasty I know) and after I did that I spit out a red chunk of what looked like slightly smaller than a dime of solid red mucus. After that I had little specks of red in my spit.

I don't have a cough currently and haven't had one in months and I haven't been having sinus issues so this is why I'm puzzled. I don't want to run to the doctor just to be told see if it happens more. I'm hoping its not some lung infection :(

If you ever cough up anything resembling blood, I'd check with a doctor about it. Doesn't mean you need to worry about it being anything serious, but you definitely should likely check.

That's the weird thing. I didn't cough at all. It just happened like I had some bloody sinus drainage. With absolutely no signs of feeling like I had sinus issues.

Same thing here.  The bad taste has been evolving and today for the first time it tastes like blood.  I haven't spit up any blood, but the taste is awful.  I have a problem with excessive mucous and it sort of tastes like it could be a mucous taste as well.  I have to do a lot of loogie hocking and I get all kinds of colors from clear to brown.  Please let me know if you figure anything out.

P.S. You didn't drink or eat anything red did you?

Did you have a bloody nose that day?

Nose bleed back drainage can cause bloody phlegm, and is just leftover from the bleed and is nothing to worry about.

Nothin red to eat or drink and no bloody nose. I know it was blood though because the taste. It hasn't happened again since this morning. I'm hoping maybe the shower just broke up some sinus but I haven't been having problems. Strange. Usually my sinuses don't bleed until I've had an infection for a little while.

Windblown1 is correct - this is something to discuss with your doctor.

Please let us know what he says

Yes it COULD BE sinus related. BUT THIS is something you must discuss with your doctor
