LOSS OF APPETITE
« on: July 10, 2014, 09:15:42 AM »
Has anyone had a loss of appetite because of anxiety?  I do not know if it is the medicine I am on (amtriptyline, uribel, and protonix) or something else.  This has been going on since May, I haven't lost much weight, maybe 2 or 3 lbs. But this lack of appetite is beginning to bother me.  Any ideas?

Loss of appetite is something that always happens to me when I'm anxious.  I'm not sure why that is, but when I am really worked up over something - let's say me thinking I have a disease of some kind - that's when it really gets bad.  About a month ago I was terrified that I had stomach cancer or some form of abdominal cancer.  I ate hardly nothing for 4 days because I was so worried about my stomach problems.

So YES, anxiety can definitely cause loss of appetite.

I wish! In all honesty, sometimes when I am worrying about my heart(which has always been my thing) I'll change the way I am eating thinking that eating healthier will help me get through and not have a heart attack but then I have lots of slip ups. I saw a cardiologist yesterday and I have no heart problems at all, the only thing he suggested was for me to lose weight which, me weighing about 300 lbs, is no surprise.
Half of the time when I get anxious or stressed I eat more. Never ending cycle I tell ya.

ANXIETY can cause loss of appetite and it can get really bad for I lost 10 pounds from my loss of appetite over a period of two weeks. I don't know if you like tea but peppermint tea stimulates my appetite, I've helped others with the tea suggestion.  :grinning-smiley-003: Mabye you need to read the fine print of your medication again for some (like Venaflaxine that I'm on) can cause loss of appetite.

Hypochondria is like a shadow, always there. I used to do so much fun stuff without my anxiety and now I do so little with it :(
