2 glasses of wine and tachycardia?!
« on: July 09, 2014, 12:30:29 PM »
Hello,
Last night I had 2 glasses of Yellow Tail merlot for the first time in FOREVER (I've been completely avoiding alcohol due to anxiety but my mom encouraged me to just try some red wine which calms you down and is good for the heart) and developed tachycardia about an hour later (it took an hour for them to go away and then returned upon me waking up for a few hours until I took Xanax). I'm wondering if this is anxiety-related, anxiety about the alcohol, and/or just an effect of drinking it. I had a lot of food with it and had 2 bottles of water afterwards. Merlot is 13% alcohol by volume and I'm a 155 lb healthy male who has had every heart test known to man which have all proven that I'm healthy (ECHO, EKG, holter monitor, slight exception with a trace of mitral valve regurgitation).

Anyone else get tachycardia after just a few moderate drinks? Merlot is suppose to be good for the heart and a healthy alcoholic choice. I never drink but thought I'd try this stuff out but the after-effects (if that's what it was) were terrible.

Yep! Every.single.time.   I've also had every heart test imaginable and am fine.

Yes and palpitations to the extreme! Had ECG showing I have benign palps and echo which was normal except for some mild mitral regurgitation and mild calcification of mitral valve. I'm a 27 yr old female 52kg. I think anxiety plays a massive part.

I also can not drink any kind of alcohol for this very reason, horrible tachycardia. People with anxiety should really stay clear of alcohol since it prevents your liver from cleaning out your blood of anxiety induced chemicals making anxious symptoms worse.

Yes happens to me quite often when I drink.  I also get it when I eat a lot of carbs so I avoid those as well.  Wine and carbs = full blown "I'm having a heart attack" panic attack for me

I miss pizza…..

So, I guess I'm not the only one!  This always happens to me too and I have decided nor to drink because of it.  Doesn't seem worth it....
