I just started reading the self help book I ordered online about health anxiety. I laugh when it talks about those who fear heart problems, ms, and brain Tumors and more. Or if some like in my case who has a real simple diagnosis like allergy and sinus problems turns into more fears of a serious disease. I believe this book will be helpful. These books are for those that have had tests and been assured by doctors that they are fine. It states that all new symtoms must be checked out by a doctor. Ect. I don't think it can honestly tell me what the causes are of my symptoms since I do have a diagnosis of allergy and sinus problems, and the symptoms in having can be from both allergies and sinuses, and the symtoms are scary, I hate waking up dizzy and feeling drunk. but what the book I'm hoping that will help me with is to not be afraid of them and especially how to put away my fears of having a brain tumor when the symptoms occur. I will let you guys know what the book teaches and if it helps. And maybe you guys would like to purchase it next. It will take me a whisk to finish it cause I get headaches when I strain my eyes too long.
Have any of you tried self help books? If you found them not so helpful then that's you cause everyone is unique.
From this book there's mild health anxiety to severe. Mild health anxiety, which is in my case like when you get sick with something mild in my case sinus infection and it turns out being a fear of something more serious and then after the disease we fear is 100% ruled out ruled out, we move on with our lives. And we are happy.
Severe anxiety is what I see a lot here. It can be when you come down with a real diagnosis such as heart burn, sinus infection and you become afraid of it being something serious until all your fears are ruled out and or you see tons of doctors and finally your fear of that is gone and you move onto something else in your body. It it can be worrying that anxiety symptoms are a real bad disease and keep on questioning, bodily checking, ect.
Then there is health phobia. These are people that are not feeling any weird bodily sensations but constantly fear of a disease since it may run in families.
It will teach how these sensations we feel are not in our heads, how they are real. Doctors think they are not real just cause they can't find anything wrong with us. But we know they are real no matter what brings them on.
Anyway, I just wanted to mention this topic. I will let you know if the book helps, I will point out things that this book teaches. It will not work, unless you help yourself. And no it's not easy, but it can be done. :)
And for those that fear brain cancer, I want to inform you that if you have serious symptoms that can mimic a brain tumor, from what I have learned by researching is that if a tumor is big enough, it will cause swelling on the brain and that will show in a non contrast ct scan. Even by some chance it misses the tumor, it can show some sort of shift or swelling on a scan.
Again, I will let you know how the book goes. :)
