Ok now I really am freaking out-- I googled my symptoms today-- burning and tightness in stomach area and everything says stomach cancer. I can't believe my mind is going down this road having just been to the doctor yesterday but it is...

Those might be a symptom of stomach cancer.
BUT, they are the same symptoms of GERD, peptic ulcers, h pylori, etc., all of which aren't life threatening AND much much much more likely.

Keep in mind......MILLIONS of peopled have GERD.  MILLIONS of people get peptic ulcers and h py,or I overgrowth.

Its believed h, pylori overgrowth us the ultimate cause of SC.  Yet.......80% of people have h. Pylori, and of those, only a small percentage get overgrowth, and of those, an small amount develop peptic ulcers, and f those, an even smaller amount develop SC.

I had the same problems.  After a week of prilosec I'm doing better.

Also, stress and anxiety can cause all of your symptoms.  It happened to me too.

Michael L...thanks for the thoughts.
Mairi, I have been doing a bit better, mentally at least.  I went to a GI specialist last week and he prescribed a stronger antacid since I wasn't seeing a change with the low-acid diet + Prilosec.  I think it's called dexilant or something.  I feel back to normal with that, but I didn't take it yesterday just to see if there was any actual improvement and I had all the symptoms again.

I have an endoscopy scheduled for the 16th.  I'm nervous about it and hope it'll give me some answers (that are treatable and not too scary!)

Even if you're feeling better, you should continue to take it regularly. PPI's aren't like regular antacids where you can take it and then not take it. They have to be taken consistently, preferably at the same time everyday. Believe me, I hate these drugs, but I've been taking Prilosec for a week now and am feeling better. Glad you're getting an endoscope done.

i could have written your post EXACTLY.  being in my 40's and having HA all my life I have realized, been told and read that
the stomach is the FIRST area to act up releasing huge amounts of acid from stress which in turn, creates a host of
other symptoms.  Yes, I have all of what you have and feel.  :(

hkov, I do wonder how much of it is stress-related.  The symptoms did coincide with a particularly stressful period in my life work and relationship-wise.  On the other hand, the symptoms WILL NOT GO AWAY apparently, and the doctor said my stomach felt very full and tight, so it can't be purely mental.  Unless the stress is actually causing the acid.  At any rate, I'm sorry you have these symptoms too but it does help to know others have them as they seem very strange and unusual to me, which was part of what was scaring me.

it did scare me and still does.  unfortunately it has become a way of life.  I am serious when I say 90% of my life i spend nauseated.  always worried about this and that and this pain and this lump and this symptom.  its just a ridiculous way to live   - I too, as we all are on this site are looking for the one day when we can wake up and not have anything to worry about - until then i just keep praying.  blessings...

I am in the same boat as all of you.  Have a hiatal hernia and whenever digestive problems creep,up, I always think the worst.  Have had many bouts of heartburn and bloating over the past few weeks.  Going to the doctor Thursday instead of letting it control my life.  It has taken me a long time to get to this point and no matter how hard I try, HA always seems to creep back in.  Stay strong!

kat, BriR, and hkov, thanks for the thoughts.  I am trying to be rational but it is so hard.  The stomach stuff actually seems to be getting worse, though I feel better with the medication in terms of the fullness/bloating feeling.  But I am getting nauseated all the time and even missed work yesterday I was so nauseous.  I also have developed a bad cough which started over the weekend.  I keep trying to tell myself it's allergies, but I find myself so sucked into this fear that it's cancer that has just spread throughout my body and is now in my lungs.  In general, I just feel nauseous, tired, and crappy all the time and I'm so sick of it.  It's hard to believe it's not cancer.  I guess I'll have more answers after the endoscopy next week

I've had persistent nausea since Saturday. It's finally going away, I assume it was a combination of things (allergies, constipation, stomach issues).

I've technically felt sick in some way or another since February. I was stubborn about taking PPI's for my problem, but now that I am, I've been feeling better (not 100% though). You will too. I'm pretty confident we don't have the big "C", I think our general health would be much worse if that was the case.
