Neuro phobia - appt tomorrow
« on: June 17, 2014, 05:12:11 PM »
WARNING:  lots of symptoms mentioned.  After 17 yrs of fasçiculations, pain, fatigue, bladder issues etc, I've decided to visit my primary doc tomorrow.  I have aching and feelings of weakness in both left leg and left bicep.  I've been dx'd with fibromyalgia but I feel that there's an exacerbation going on, and I suspect I may have thoracic outlet affecting left arm (I hope that's what it is). About 16 years ago I went through this whole work up and was told CFS / Fibro.  Now I am terrified I'm getting a**.  I would even be ok with an ms dx because (if that's what I have) it's treatable and seems slow moving.  The stress over the past few weeks has gotten bad, and I spend all day examining my hands for signs of wasting and doing strength tests.  When I wake in the morning the muscles between my shoulder blades are extremely painful and stiff, my soles of my feet burn when I stand up, and the fascications are everywhere (calves, arms, abdomen, feet, neck, etc).  I'm a wreck and need some kind words before my visit tomorrow.  Thanks

I hope you're right.  I put the appt off for weeks, but I can't live like this.  It's just my primary doctor, so I will probably end up with a referral -- ugh.

Also your bladder has nothing to do with neuro issues. I've never heard of tht...anexity makes you use the bathroom more. Fact.

Nytviolet, I have been going through neuro issues as well and I was horrified about seeing a neurologist last week.  I sat in the waiting room waiting to hear it was all over for me.  Well, guess what.  She found that neurologically I was fine, and you will be too. My symptoms have been on and off for 9 years - horrible.  Anyway I do have an elevated protein something or other that I have to get check out.

I can totally related to how you feel and I am wishing you the best.  Just know you will be fine and let us know how your appointment goes.  Remember, anxiety can cause so many awful symptoms. Hugs to you.

I actually have "neurogenic bladder" where my bladder fails to fully empty (I have to lean forward, strain and press on my abdomen to fully empty it)... I've had this 17 years.  I've also (and this may be TMI for some folks) had a severely diminished orgasm reflex since this began.  Like I said, most of the symptoms (bladder, sexual, fasciculations, fatigue, etc.) have been around since 1997... but suddenly I have this fear that I'm developing **S.  I've tried to rationalize, and since I spend 9-10 hours per day on a computer, the aching and feeling of weakness in my left bicep is probably from tensed muscles in my back/shoulder (similar to thoracic outlet syndrome).  But I'm also feeling a bit weak in my left leg... I have not tripped, dropped anything, and I type 85 wpm, so my finger coordination is good, but I can't stop imagining this sick scenario where (after months of dreadful tests) a neurologist sits me down and says, "I'm sorry to tell you, but you have ***".  I know it's terrible, but we've all been through it.  I am sincerely hoping that the primary care doctor at least does a few neuro tests (strength, reflexes, etc.) and tells me that things look good.... but I know how they operate, and I'll probably end up with a referral to some other doctor (orthopedic, neuro, rheumatologist, etc.).  I have always thought that the fibromyalgia was a misdiagnosis (and that I have a benign form of MS)... but I can't get the damn **S out of my head!!!  It's almost as though I'm manifesting symptoms to match my worst fear.  This is sheer hell, but I will keep the appointment.   :(

My symptoms are mostly a surging feeling through my chest that feels like an adrenaline rush and a prickly feeling in the skin of both of my legs. When I wear pants my legs drive me bonkers.  I have had so many tests that I feel I just have to let my neurological fears go.

Nyt, I have to say this is dumb, but if you're in need of reassurance, a clinical examination should help. These things do not suddenly pop-up after 17 years of a benign condition. You know this. Your fascics and pains are worsening because there is a strong anxiety component (I know this because even IF I have ***, knock on wood that I do not, my symptoms have lessened the calmer I am).

And Nk, bladder symptoms can most definitely be neurological. This, though, is not a symptom of ***.

TheNomnom:  I wish you lived nearby and could slap me across the face.  I SHOULD KNOW BETTER!  You and I have discussed this at length, and we'd both be okay with an MS diagnosis (I was relieved when they told me I had fibromyaglia so many years ago).  Still, suddenly I'm imagining an increase in the fascics, feeling cramps, and just driving myself nuts in general.  I have VIRTUALLY NO ONE I can speak with about this.  My family barely acknowledges that I have fibro, and any other complaints are met with a "meh".  You should have seen me trying to do my own Babinski test yesterday... it was a joke.

Use something sharp; it's easier to provoke a plantar reflex. I wouldn't recommend trying to test other reflexes by yourself, but that one is fairly simple. My knees are brisk when I test them, but normal when a doctor does.

That said, you'd probably know something was amiss before your reflexes should change. I mean, how many people complain of brisk reflexes to a doctor, right?

Oh, that reminds me. Jillay, have you seen that specialist yet? I'm very interested in what they had to say.
