Fluid in head, won't drain
« on: June 10, 2014, 08:53:52 PM »
I'm currently recovering from a sinus infection, and last night (after ~4 days on antibiotics) I had what seemed like an allergy attack (head filling up, hives, intense itch), leaving what feels like a head full of liquid (still feels the same). Strangely enough there's no nasal congestion, practically no ear congestion, and little to no drainage either. I have heard about brain swelling, but I've never had any head trauma. Is this normal? And what do I do to make it drain/provide relief?

Did you eat anything different or use a new soap or something?  What you are describing sounds like a reaction to something you ate or something like that.  I am sure your brain is fine.  If you are concerned, then call your doctor.  However it sounds like just an allergic reaction to something. Since you have been on the meds for 4 days I am sure the meds are not the issue.  Check with your doctor to be sure you can take it, but something like Benadryl might help.

Thanks. I did take a benadryl last night, which helped with the itching, although the fluid buildup remained. I guess what I'm really wondering is whether or not allergic fluid in the cranium like this could ever be, I dunno, fatal or injurious in any way?

Fluid is in your sinus area and not cranium. It may also be a combinations of allergies also.

Marc is right.  Sinus fluid is not in your cranium and it is not around your brain.  It is not dangerous.  It can be uncomfortable and painful, but nothing to fear.
