Driving me crazy
« on: May 28, 2014, 07:47:23 PM »
I injured myself 5 weeks ago getting out of bed.  I simply propped my body up using my left hand and excruciating pain resulted in thumb side of left finger.  Pain was brief and returned for 10 second bursts for the subsequent weeks everyday.  It's been awhile since I felt the excruciating pain but that side of my ring finger is partially numb/tingly.  Will this ever heal?  Anyone have experience with this?  I wet to hand specialist, he did some tests and said nerve was "stretched" and to come back in 3 months if not healed

It'll probably heal.  I'm not a doctor, but I am remarkably good at hurting myself in weird ways.  I once had something similar to you, though I got it from slamming my hand into a wrought-iron fence (one of the spires kinda plowed between where the bones go in my hand) and after the brain-melting pain finally subsided, there was a lot of numbness, then only numbness when I pushed on the spot, and years later it's fine.  I don't remember how long it took, though; I never saw a doctor for it.

Thanks, that injury sounds nasty.  What scares me is how routine this movement was.  I mean pushing up off a mattress?  Certainly shouldn't be a traumatic experience for a finger.  Ever since my health anxiety kicked into high gear, I've been more fatigued than usual, had more muscle tension, easily injured, and all sorts of weird symptoms.  Hopefully it fades someday.....

Funnily enough the skin didn't break at all - the damage was entirely invisible.

And it is SO easy to hurt yourself doing routine things.  My girlfriend's friend broke one of the bones in her arm in a horrible way trying to reach for something and falling out of bed.  I occasionally get a lot of pain trying to push myself up - either in my wrist or that part of the hand where the thumb and palm connect.  I doubt there's anything sinister going on with your body - just one of those things.
