Brain eating amoeba
« on: May 26, 2014, 04:02:58 PM »
Well I'm from the hot state of Florida and I fish in my pond on a regular basis. I wasn't catching anything so I thought I would just mess around and try to catch little minows with my net. I touched the hot water a couple of times and stuck my feet in the water too. I went inside a little while later and washed my hands because I got dirt in my nails and to wash the grossness of the pond water off. A bit of time passed and I picked my nose and itched the inside of my ear without thinking about it (gross I know) but right after that I started thinking about brain eating amoeba and now I'm freaking out! I already feel like my nasal passage is getting all weird like that feeling before you're about to sneeze. Do you think I'm fine? Thanks!

You're like twenty times more likely to die tomorrow from your toaster than you are from this amoeba, even if you'd deliberately snorted warm swampwater up your nose.

It's been about 7 days since I thought that I had a brain eating amoeba. All I've had symptoms wise is a headache for a couple of days, (which I think was caused by strain to the eyes from not wearing my glasses)... Do you think I'm fine?

What's with the brain-eating amoeba popularity lately.

This is not a reasonable fear. This is the one time I'd encourage OP to learn more about this because of how outlandish it is.

I am in the same boat!! I accidentally sprayed bottled water up my nose while I was drinking it. It was a new bottle and full and I just squeezed it too hard. I immediately spit it out and blew my nose to get the water out. It was a bottle of spring water from the grocery store. I know it is an irrational fear but I am terrified. I am on day 3 post incident.....

There is no 'incident'. I can already promise you there is nothing wrong.

Go look up stats on this. This is absolutely absurd.

First off, your name is awesome

I know it's very, very, very uncommon for this to happen, but as I said in my originial post, I'm from Florida and I've heard of a few cases that happened here that's why it sorta spooked me.
