Hello Guys,
My name is Daniel im 19 years old and I come from a small town in Ireland called Cork City.
I have always had anxiety issues including GAD (due to childhood experiences) and now Health Anxiety.

Here is how it started. About 5-6 weeks ago on a Tuesday night i was sitting at home having about 8 cans of cider(as i normally would have). Went to bed.
When i woke up the next morning i had severe pain in my right side and had to pee like forty times a day. My GP checked me and i had no sign of urine infection or whatever. She sent me to the hospital for possible kidney stones. Abdominal ultrasound showed nothing and was sent home having "Overactive Bladder". I then started getting pain in my lower back and tailbone. Had a lumbar  MRI done and that was also clear.

Then last week I realized i could never empty my bowels fully (always felt like i had more to do) i know its gross lol.
I started freaking out due to the abdominal pain, morning nausea, and change in bowel habits.
I went to my GP with my father on Fri as i woke feeling extremely nauseous ( heart rate resting is normally 66bpm) and went up to 115bpm because i had a panic attack. The GP said i have IBS, and that colon cancer at my age is virtually unheard of unless i have family members with it. I am absolutely terrified as in this country we are on a health scheme. So i would literally have to wait 7 or 8 months to see a GI doctor. I am not passing any blood. And im seeing mucus when i wipe :( :(

Please help me as the anxiety is killing me right now guys i feel so alone :(

Mucous is a huge indicator of IBS when not accompied by blood. IBS can also cause change in Bowel habbits and cause sever cramping. At 19 years old CC is almost unheard of unless you have a genetic colon condition causing hundreds of polyps to form in your colon and it's very rare. And even with that it mostly developes in your 30s and 40s. I would push to see a Gastro to rule out colitis or diverticulosis. Both are easly controlled.

Thanking you for the reply!

Its weird, my symptoms seem to switch from pains in my left abdomen to my right abdomen near my bellybutton :(
and i think if i had somehow had it, if it was big enough to push on my bladder i surely would be much more ill and in much more pain. The abdominal ultrasound ruled out any lumps or bumps on my kidneys, liver, bladder, gallbladder, and pancreas.

I have also had bloodwork done in the ER and nothing came about in that.
But waiting on results from fasting bloods at the moment.

Im sorry to sound like such a pest but these thoughts are consuming my mind on a daily basis and i really dont know where to go from here!:(
Plus I have no genetic or family predisposition to CC.

You don't sound like a pest, Danny. Most of us here have the same all-consuming health fears and just need somewhere to go to get it off our chest...and this is the place. :)

As Lindsay said, it's extremely unlikely that you have cancer. In fact with the ultrasound, MRI, and bloodwork results all negative I'd say it's impossible. What you have is a manageable condition that will get better in time. If you want, have a look at this natural remedy site: http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/ibs-irritable-bowel-syndrome.html You might find something that helps with the pain.

I know it just seems like my parents are sick of hearing me saying i feel unwell on a daily basis because they want me to do housework and go get a job seeing as im on my summer break from college. I am absolutely terrified. My parents take the doctors words as gospel when im the only person who knows how i feel in myself. Im terrified as i feel gas getting trapped in my tailbone area and not being able to empty myself properly :(

Afraid that im gonna wake up one morning in unreal pain and ill be shifted to hospital and told i have a few weeks/months to live.

That absolutely sounds exactly like IBS.  I know those fears.  I felt the exact same.  It wasn't until I saw my friend pass from colon cancer at 26 that I realized I was OK.  He had a family history and his symptoms were completely different.

Would you be open to see your GP to treat your anxiety?  You don't have to live like this.

Im sorry to be such a burden and asking so many questions but i even feel like i have pressure on the right side of my stomach as I am typing, and hearing about deaths from colon cancer makes me feel worse and that i may be an exeption at my age :( Im sorry for your loss :(
I am absolutely terrified.

Hi Daniel,
Sorry to hear you are going through all of this.
I am in Ireland too. Your GP can refer you directly for a colonoscopy. You do not have to wait for an appointment with a Gastroentrologist. I know this because mine did. Then after the colonoscopy you will meet with the Gastro to discuss your results. Therefore, skipping the months of waiting. Maybe you should call your GP and request this if it will help put your mind at ease over your symptoms.

I should also say, the average waiting time for the colonoscopy is 10 weeks (in Dublin), not sure about Cork, but maybe something similar.
It's still better than waiting months on end to get an appointment with the Gastro first.

My parents think there is no need as my doctor is confident that it is IBS because i suffer from anxiety.

Well it's your choice, not theirs, you are an adult, and I mean that in the nicest way.
It's up to you. If you feel your symptoms are that bad, you can request it. It will rule out cancer and IBD's straight away.
On another note, you could try the FODMAP diet which is supposed to have very good results for IBS sufferers and see how you get on.

Hey Dan,
I firstly just want to assure you that you are going to be just fine. I know what you are going through because I have been there many times. IMO you do not have anything to worry about, just perhaps something to fix, like your diet or your anxiety.
What I have learnt over the past 10 years of seeing many doctors/GI specialists and obsessing constantly over many GI issues, digestive problems, nausea, weird BMs, having a myriad of tests done, often...is that stomach issues are actually very common and they can go on and on and on... But it doesn't mean they are sinister! And they are made a lot worse when we focus on them. I know this well from experience.
My thoughts would be that you may need to change your diet in some way. A colonoscopy is prob a good idea NOT because I think you have CC, but to check for things like celiac, lactose intolerance, all sorts of digestive issues, again let me stress NOT because this could be CC.
You could (unlikely but *could*)have something like crohns or inflammatory bowel disease which would also be picked up on a colonoscopy, but honestly even those are rare when you think about how many ppl have the exact same symptoms and problems as us and never end up getting an actual disease as a diagnosis.
Dan you're  ok, it's highly unlikely that you have anything even remotely close to CC going on. Please try and keep calm. Breathe. You're just fine.

Got the proper blood tests results from my doctor today,

Everything clear, no anemia, nothing out of range.
Doc says it is most definitely IBS now.
Because CC isnt discovered until late stage and lots of things would be out.
Agree?
