There are some things that I have just decided, if it gets me, then jolly good show.  ;*) This amoeba is one of them.

There is no way you're catching this amoeba from what you described. No way.

Cripes. I went through this fear back on Monday. I'm still fine, by the way. :action-smiley-065:

Couple things:

You live in a particularly cold climate. A vast majority of these amoeba incidents have happened in hotter places.

I don't think there's been a single reported case in North America all year. These things pop up during the summer time. And even then, super rare.

Pretty sure the Louisiana incident was cause they had it growing in their personal water heater, the city tap water was not to blame for the incident.

So relax, I seriously think you're fine.

Update: still alive.

I checked the water temperatures, and in May the water in Montreal is about 50 degrees. So the amoeba is not activated... Good news :)

We have a water heater and the water gets really hot. Worrying a bit but less than before

So I just discovered these amoeba thing via ***** a few nights ago and I'm now terrified of water of any sorce. I don't think I will ever swim in a lake or river again nor allow my children too. I will most likely even freak over swimming pools.

OP you do not have the amoeba. If it makes you feel better see your GP for evaluation but you are fine.

I doubt a GP would even know what it is!

What makes you think I don't have it?

Cause you're more likely to get struck by lightning or win the lottery...

I convinced myself that I had it a week ago and I'm fine.

Odds of winning the Powerball: 1 in 175,223,510
= 5.70699674e-9 = 0.0000000571%
Odds of winning the Powerball and getting struck by lightning in your life:
1.1413993e-12 = 0.00000000000141%

If 1 in 10 Americans visit lakes in the south: 1 in 31,000,000
Max odds of getting N. fowleri in a given year from freshwater: 8 in 31 million
Odds of getting N. fowleri through sinus rinsing: approximately 2 in 128
2/128 * 8/31000000 =  4.03225806e-9 = 0.000000403%

In my case: 99% boiled water:
2/128 * 8/31000000 * 1/100 = 4.03225806e-11 = 0.00000000403%

So I'm nearly as likely to win the Powerball grand prize and be struck by lightning in my life than to catch it. Those statistics are even lower if you're in an area where there are no reported cases.

Today I've had eye pain (when I move them), a bit of a headache (mostly behind my ears), and stomach pain (like gas)... I dunno if it's from stress or what. Soon to be the 5th full day since my sinus clearing incident.

All I know is, it feels like the end of my life is coming soon. I'm not sure I can describe it otherwise. It's a feeling of "this is it".
