Apparently even if the water is properly chlorinated, they can exist in some sort of other form for long periods of time?

I'm in the wrong part of the content. Wrong time of the year. Wrong kind of water (mine is treated and has had no recent flooding or hurricanes). I used 99% boiled water. Why am I afraid?

There are some things that I have just decided, if it gets me, then jolly good show.  ;*) This amoeba is one of them.

There is no way you're catching this amoeba from what you described. No way.

Cripes. I went through this fear back on Monday. I'm still fine, by the way. :action-smiley-065:

Couple things:

You live in a particularly cold climate. A vast majority of these amoeba incidents have happened in hotter places.

I don't think there's been a single reported case in North America all year. These things pop up during the summer time. And even then, super rare.

Pretty sure the Louisiana incident was cause they had it growing in their personal water heater, the city tap water was not to blame for the incident.

So relax, I seriously think you're fine.

Update: still alive.

I checked the water temperatures, and in May the water in Montreal is about 50 degrees. So the amoeba is not activated... Good news :)
