I'm just wondering if anyone has done an increase for 30 mg Buspar to 45 mg. That's what I'm trying starting this week for GAD.
...Also, my doc is upper my 40 mg prozac to 50 mg as well.
IMHO, you should never change the dose of two meds at the same time because if there's a problem you won't know which is causing it.
Buspar is one of a number of anxiety meds which work well for a few and not at all for most. However, it can also increase the effectiveness of SSRIs, even returning ones that have stopped working to full effectiveness, so it may be worth taking for that reason alone.
IMHO, it would be better to increase the Prozac dose first and then up the Buspar after 4-6 weeks.
On another note, my doc is my physician and prescribes my meds. Do people think that's ok or do you prefer to have a psychiatrist prescribe your meds?
I don't think you need to see a psychiatrist to prescribe your meds once you're stabilized on an effective treatment, but it is a good idea to have one doing the initial diagnosis and med selection, and maybe touch base once a year or so (though I have to admit I haven't seen mine in over a decade, haven't had a reason to and I'm notoriously lazy
). GPs have only limited training in psych disorders, literally only a few weeks during the, from memory, third year of medical school, and maybe a psych rotation as an intern/resident.
