Tick bite. Do lymph nodes swell?
« on: May 18, 2014, 10:21:11 PM »
I had a tick bite near my underwear band. Now one of my nodes in my groin area is a little swollen and tender.  Is this normal?  My children have had bites behind their ears and their node swelled near their ear, but I can't say I have noticed this on me.

I'm scared of Lyme diseases or maybe lymphoma and I haven't noticed my node swelling!  :sprachlos020:

When it comes to lymph nodes in general swollen and tender nodes are usually nothing to worry about - it's when they're bigger than 2 cm, very hard, non tender and present for more than three weeks you can go and have it checked up. As for the tick bite: did you take the tick out with the head and all? If it's red and swollen you should have a doctor look at it.

Lymph nodes swell in reaction to all sorts of things. Worry when they're big and immovable and won't shrink back down, even then it might be nothing.

As for lyme disease, depends on where you live. I know a decent amount of central US states have zero reports of lyme disease and it's relatively uncommon on the West Coast. Keep an eye on it, maybe see a doc to be safe, specially if you're in an area (like Wisconsin) where they have a lot of Lyme Disease reports.
