Ambien after 3 days....
« on: May 18, 2014, 08:09:46 PM »
Okay so third day on zoloft.... Been having bad anxiety for the past couple weeks am almost 20 weeks pregnant and have had trouble sleeping
Don't want to take the ambien tonight so will I be up all night without it after just three days? Or should I try to take half?
Benadryl and unisom don't work too well for me but perhaps because I've been with high anxiety.... Any thoughts?

Possibly. Given your mind appears to be working on it already, it may be a definitely.

If you're going to take it then take the full dose. There's not much point in half measures.

I've decided to not take the ambien and was relaxed when I tried to go to bed
About 45 mins after had to get up because of a mild panic attack that made my heart rate go up and couldn't calm down until I got up
Ended up having to take .5 mg of generic xanax :( haven't needed a xanax in a few days
Hopefully I can get some rest
Feel guilty about taking the xanax
I guess it's the nature of panic disorder though

Feel guilty about taking the xanax

Why? At this late stage it isn't going to harm your baby, indeed reducing your anxiety levels is better for it, both now and in the long term. Benzodiazepines are only problematic in the first trimester, and even then the risk is small, especially at the low doses usually prescribed for anxiety.

Thank you
That makes me feel better
The xanax didn't knock me out
It usually doesn't but just calms me enough to relax
I slept I just don't know how much because I'm trying to not look at the clock because I obsess over it
But I remember dreaming a couple different dreams
Is it possible that I'm actually sleeping more than I think I am and the anxiety is what makes me think otherwise
I woke up and felt anxious again
Today would be the fourth day on 12.5 mg of Zoloft
Should I increase the dose before 7 days? My dr kind of left it up to me
I'm transferring to a new dr today

Sleep specialists will tell you most insomniacs actually sleep a lot more than they think they do, so you may be getting more ZZZZs than you realize.

It might be counterproductive. When taken daily meds tend to build up in the blood plasma until they reach a steady-state where the amount being taken daily matches the amount being metabolized. Typically the amount in the blood stream is then 1.5-4 times the peak quantity from a one-off dose (2x for Zoloft). The rule of thumb is not to up the dose until the current one reaches that steady-state which usually takes about 5 times the half-life of the med, or about 6 days for Zoloft.
