Anybody know anything about bone cancer?
« on: May 07, 2014, 11:27:21 PM »
I run everyday at least two miles, I'm almost 20, and on my inner left shin I've found a lump beneath the skin. It's not very big and it can't be seen I only knew it was there because I was putting lotion on. It hurts a bit and my shin bone hurts too. I'm scared I have bone cancer and I know my age is the time to get it. It doesn't hurt much when I run, however. Please help before I have a panic attack

Could just be a bruise. That happens when the skin bruises. a little lump.

Even if it was a growth, do you know that the likelihood of it being a cyst or some fluid filled, non-cancerous thing is like 5000000000000000000000x more likely?

Pain from bone cancer will be the worst pain of your life and will DEFINITELY wake you from sleep. Put some ice on it and see if it goes down. Try to massage the area. If it's still there in a week or two, head to the doctor for reassurance. Although bone cancer is more prevalent in <20 age group, it's still EXTREMELY rare. A thousand other things it can be.

Your shin bone could be hurting from shin splints. It is a pretty common problem for runners that I have had a lot. Do you land on your heels when you run? Do you run on sidewalks or pavement?

Did you bump into anything?  A few times when I've knocked my shins or knees, instead of getting a bruise I've gotten a mildly painful knot.

I used to work out a lot years ago...and somehow I got a 'bone bruise' on my shin bone.  The area where it was bruised was sore to the touch, but there was no bruise on my skin.  I went to the doctor and he took an x-ray, and discovered it was a bone bruise.  Don't know how I got it though.

Take care :)

I went to the doctor today for something else and mentioned it to her, she was confused about the bruising because I have no recollection of hitting it on anything, and she felt my shin a little and think it's just bruising. I'm worried because she didkt really rub the spot I was concerned about and automatically mentioned bruising without really feeling around.
