Small discoloration on breast
« on: May 04, 2014, 12:15:45 PM »
Hi, everyone. I'm new to this site and I'm a 19 year old college student who has been struggling with anxiety and panic attacks recently (because I'm very good at convincing myself I'm having a heart attack, haha). I've been seeing a counselor for a couple weeks now. Anyways, yesterday, I noticed a very small red patch on my breast, probably about the size of the tip of my pinky finger. There hasn't been any unusual pain, just some normal tenderness in both of my breasts, and I can't feel any lumps. I made the mistake of googling this and Inflammatory Breast Cancer immediately popped up, which sent me into a cycle of worry, especially because I recently read a book that involved IBC. The logical side of my brain is telling me I'm 19 years old with no family history and ONLY the discoloration, no other symptoms, but I can't seem to stop worrying about it. Google has not been very reassuring, either. I'm seeing my college's nurse practitioner this coming week to see what she thinks and then I'll probably see a doctor once my insurance is sorted out.

In the meantime, I guess I'm just looking for some personal experiences/reassuring stories/statistics/words of encouragement. It would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Odds are it's just a bit of irritation and will go away on its own in the next few days.

Thanks! I'm starting to calm down a bit and think so, too.

I have been in the same position with the same fear a couple times. Any discoloration has always gone away on its own. It is very common to get marks there because breast skin is sensitive and in contact with a lot of materials, etc.
