Child ate someone else's half-eaten food
« on: April 28, 2014, 07:16:53 PM »
My 4 year old was playing at a very busy park today while my husband and I were watching from a bench. Before we could stop it, a little girl gave my daughter her half-eaten cookie and my daughter ate it. This little girl was a complete stranger. I'm so worried that she could have passed along some horrible disease to my daughter. My daughter also has some little cuts on her lip right now. My husband thinks I'm being ridiculous, but I'm so freaked out. I'm forcing myself not to google about which diseases can be passed through saliva...I know there are a lot. How likely is it she'll get seriously sick from this?

Unless your daughter has food allergies, you have nothing to worry about.

Let's be real. The worse case scenario would be mono? Referred to the kissing disease and I don't think your 4 year old kid is kissing anyone other than you...

The sickest allergic children come from homes with clean freak mothers.  Why?  Well because they never develop an immune system.  I think every 4 year old probably needs to eat some dirt and lick a floor every once in awhile (said a bit tongue in cheek but you get my drift).  No worries here...let kids be kids.

This

Your kid will be fine, there's nothing your kid can get from the cookie except a step closer to diabetes (a joke)

I have a 7 yr old he's eaten ***** way worse and he's perfectly healthy.

If your child was in school she'd be doing the same things with classmates - sharing their food, their drinks, drinking from the same straw, etc.  Except you'd never see it.  I once had a kid on my bus dare another one to lick the bottom of his shoe and he DID!  And HE didn't even get sick!   (not that I condone licking the bottoms of shoes, but you get my point)

Ha.  I remember back when I was in school, a kid was dared to lick the bottom of her shoe.  She did it.  No ill effects.

...kids are disgusting.  But it rarely hurts anyone, except for the nausea adults get when witnessing it ;)
