I'm one of those readers who has embraced self-published books. It used to be almost impossible to get an agent to show your book.
Now, people can take a chance. There's very little to lose and a lot to gain. Sure, I sample hundreds of patently awful books but that's the joy of Ebook sampling. I can always tell if a book "has what it takes" within a chapter or two, often in less. There are right ways and wrong ways to start a book being written. There are certain basic principles for the start and if a writer overlooks these, you can be sure the rest of the book will suffer.
I bought a self-published book from a writer, Hugh Howey. His self-published work became a huge hit and my self-=published copy is worth $500 on Ebay! Hopefully yours will be even more valuable.
So, my best wishes to you for success. Marketing is the next step and it looks like you've taken good care of that.
