Very Scary Delusion...or is it real? ):
« on: April 24, 2014, 09:52:13 PM »
Hi, I am probably going to sound very insane but I just need some reassurance ): I just moved into an apartment and so to do my laundry I have to go to a laundromat. I became very afraid with an overwhelming thought that people there were going to poison my laundry somehow. I just got back with my clothes and bedding and now I feel itchy, have a sore throat, watery eyes, and feel very sick and scared. Ugh... I feel like someone poisoned my stuff. If anyone can give me some reassurance that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, having your clothes poisoned is very unlikely---it sounds more likely to be allergies or a cold.

Take care :)

I'm sorry.  It sounds like anxiety and OCD.  Those thoughts are just thoughts.....only thoughts and not reality.  You are not insane.  Just unfortunately riddled with anxiety. Can you label them as just thoughts and see them float by? And say "This too shall pass"?

Anxiety can do that. I have anxiety and OCD as mentioned above. Whenever I sat down to write a paper this semester (my most dreaded thing to do, I get so obsessed with the grammar and making sure I write very clearly and intelligently that it becomes a really miserable experience, eventually it turned into a trigger for me) I always got really, really itchy. At first I didn't make the connection but when I did the itchiness went away. So yes itchiness is a symptom of anxiety, definitely.
