In a major panic!!
« on: April 24, 2014, 11:34:20 AM »
I was really sick with a cold/flu yesterday. Today when I woke up, it felt like I had been asleep for weeks. And aside from that, my arm was cold. It was almost difficult to move, very clumsy. I immediately went into a panic, "my arm is being paralyzed". I've settled down a little but my arm still feels really foreign to me. Holding my hands is almost like holding someone else's hand. Is this anxiety or is there something seriously wrong...?

I once took a fall skiing and wound up with a muscle knot that immobilized my right arm and shoulder.  It was freaky and unpleasant but a good deep tissue massage took care of it.  Nerves can get pinched between contracted muscles and cause weakness, numbness, etc.  Even sleeping in a funny position can cause this.  Nothing to worry about...but a great excuse to get a massage!

That's crazy! I didn't know that was possible. But the thing is, it's not that it's immobilized or even numb. It just feels detached in a way. Even when I look at it. It's scaring the sh*t out of me because I'm afraid I might wake up in the morning and it really will be immobile..

I remember one day waking up with my arm so dead numb that I literally had to lift it with my other hand.  TOTALLY dead asleep.  Was very scary but the feeling came back shortly.  I seem to remember that it was sore for the entire day after that.  I just assumed that I must have slept in a strange position and was on a nerve for an extended period of time.  I agree it was a scary feeling at first.

I'm probably just overthinking it. On one side, I was just sick and it's strange that I'm feeling this right after. On the other side, I'm prone to overthinking every symptom and situation.
