Underarm itchiness....IBC?
« on: April 21, 2014, 05:14:50 PM »
Hi All,
I have had itchiness in my right arm pit for about a week now, maybe longer. I didn't think much of it at first, and didn't pay it much attention. But because it is lasting a long time, I googled.....and naturally the results freaked me out.
I have not changed deoderant, shower gel, body lotion etc. My bra is not rubbing anywhere near where the itching is. I do not see any redness or rash, and I don't think I can feel any lumps or swellings there either.
But, now I'm worried about inflammatory breast cancer. And lymph nodes...again.
Has anyone ever had this symptom? And if so, what did it turn out to be?
Please help :(

Ever since I turned 40 I have been having the strangest symptoms and this is one of them. I get terrible under arm itchiness as well. I don't know what it is and I've tried everything. My deodorant has always been the same but one time it got so bad that I literally stopped using deodorant all together, for a few days. It didn't make a difference. Shaving doesn't make a difference. Cleaning and wiping the area doesn't make a difference either. I don't see any rash, redness or anything down there. The only thing that helps is to stop scratching. The more I scratch, the worse it becomes. I guess that's why it happens in bouts. When I don't think about it or scratch it, its mysteriously gone. Right now just writing about it has made me start itching.

I believe this is hormonal though, aside from anxiety of thinking about it. I get the same itching on my chest. Talcum powder is the only thing that helps.

I get swollen lymph nodes all of the time and yes, they do hurt but I have a mammo yearly and nothing is ever found.

Mine was an allergy to deodorant, they changed an ingredient.  I can only use one brand, Lady Speed Stick Gel.

Thanks for the responses.
I am even more worried today, because I remembered about 6-8 weeks ago when I had a really itchy bikini area too. I thought it was because of the bikini wax I had, but now I am worried because this is an area with lots of lymph nodes too.
I'm in worry overdrive right now. Could this be a symptom of lymphoma?

I am 100% sure that lymphoma has way more symptoms than itchy under arms and bikini areas. A serious disease like that would have symptoms severe enough for you to have gone to the ER by now. I think that as anxiety sufferers we tend to miss the forest for the trees as we fixate on random, meaningless and moderately  uncomfortable symptoms as signs of severe and serious illnesses. Basically the itchiness can be million different things and not one of them is lymphoma.

But what about inflammatory breast cancer? Itching is a symptom. I'm petrified.
