Can't comprehend people sometimes..
« on: April 07, 2014, 10:22:35 PM »
I have nearly perfect hearing, but sometimes when someone tells me to do something or tells me something I hear them clearly but I have to ask them to repeat it? I google it and it said either you're going deaf, or hearing loss & being the hypochondriac I am I freaked out.. this has been going on since I've been getting homeschooled, PLEASEE tell me that this is a symptom of anxiety..

Sounds like possibly a couple things...you hear but are not processing it because of anxiety...or you have developed a bad habit of always making someone repeat.

or you have developed a bad habit of always making someone repeat.

My dad would do this. You tell him something, and he'd automatically say, "What?" And then, as you started to repeat yourself, he'd realize that he had heard you right the first time and respond accordingly.

Anxiety can definitely mess with comprehension/memory. The brain's distracted and can only do so much, after-all.

I'd recommend staying off Google, if you can, especially as it relates to health issues.

In case anyone is still confused:  googling your symptoms will cause you to remain in a state of extreme anxiety. Stepping away from the internet is the first step toward lasting peace.

Mindfulness can help with this!  Mindfulness is all about staying fully present in the moment.  Those of us with anxiety have a very hard time doing this.

If you do a search for mindfulness you will find lots of tips and guided visualizations to help you stay in the moment so that you'll remember things better.
