Remember what it's like to be happy?
« on: April 01, 2014, 02:38:41 PM »
I posted this a while ago but thought it would be useful for some people to see again given that the chat is currently down.

Remember what it's like to be happy?

Can you remember what it feels like to be relaxed?
To be calm?
To be content?
It's like a memory that you can revisit anytime.

Can you remember what it feels like to be focused?
To be driven?
To be motivated?
To be passionate?

Do you remember what it feels like to be confident?
To be intelligent?
To be decisive?
If you put your mind to it you will be able to.

Can you remember what it feels like to be happy?
To be excited?
To be eager?
I know it's hard but you have to try.

Can you remember what it's like to be happy?

I do remember what it was like, but it has been a long time.  Sometimes I will think about how I used to be so fearless, and didn't have physical symptoms of anxiety, it makes me feel like a totally different person.  I remember how I used to love to drive long distances, and that it would actually relax me, then I developed a fear of the highway--even as a passenger.  Back then I would sometimes encounter an anxious person, and I would wonder why the person worries so much, and I would feel sorry for them, and wonder why they just couldn't relax, now I am that person.

But, I love remembering how I was before anxiety, kind of makes me feel empowered :)

I remember what it's like to be happy.  And I think it's very helpful to remember such times.

As I've gone through therapy, Buspar, mindful meditation, buddhist chanting, physical exercise -- I find myself recovering.
And instead of just remembering what it's like to be happy, calm, confident -- I am experiencing those feelings.
I'm even having times at work where I have fun.

Being happy has become such a vague distant memory for me. That brought tears to my eyes because i will never be that person again. Its horrible to remember....at least for me anyway :(
