Worse when exercising (ear)
« on: March 31, 2014, 11:54:38 AM »
So I noticed my right ear (the one that has the hearing distortion that I believe to be the cause of my vertigo) is worse with cardio - like the increased blood flow is some how making it worse (ear feels full and muffled hearing but it's dying down now that I'm done my cardio workout) worried it could be a tumour - or what the cause is period. I don't think I'd be afraid if it was that benign tumour that can grow there (forget the name) but I hope it's not

NEVERMIND I just totally googled and freaked myself out and now I think it's an acoustic neuroma because I have occasional facial numbness in the same spot on my LEFT cheek under my eye next to my nose that comes and goes that's been going on for the same period of time as the ear thing and now I'm panicking because that's a symptom and I'm very scared

I doubt it's an acoustic neuroma... I have had ringing in my ear non stop for months now, and just had my second MRI and there is nothing wrong with my brain or ears. I have been to the ENT doctor and had a hearing test, and even my hearing is fine.

I have had the facial tingling/numbness before. I have also had those full feelings, popping/clogging, and wooshing sounds like you describe. I'm sure you're fine.

I hope so. Rational people would just assume it's a minor ear problem but I have something wrong with my ear and I'm like Oh my god it's life threatening  :dazed: I just want to know what it is!

Here's another question - I had an MRI done about 4-5 years ago. Do you think since an acoustic neuroma is such a slow growing tumour it would have showed up back then if it was there? They say people generally don't notice symptoms until their 30s because it grows so slowly and I'm only 19

I couldn't say. Even if it is an acoustic neuroma, it's benign and can be treated quite easily.
