Liver issues?
« on: March 30, 2014, 07:04:21 PM »
So I haven't been on here in awhile but I'm kind of worried about something. Every so often I'll have a dull pain in my right upper abdomen, I also have dark urine from time to time and I can't tell but my bowel movement color keeps changing, sometime's its regular but other times it will be a mix of brown and slightly lighter color kind of gray but not really sure if its what people would consider "gray poop". I have had some itching but luckily no jaundice, I had a blood test the other week and my doctor said everything was normal but is the liver test included in a CBC with diff?

liver and kidney tests are standard, even if it's NOT a complete count.  If your numbers were normal, you're good.  And they must have been or else your doctor would have brought it to your attention.

Liver tests are part of the comprehensive metabolic panel. They are not included in the CBC.

Oh?  What is a CBC?  I just thought that meant Complete Blood Count (I have to admit, I guessed - it SOUNDED right, but...)

Darn allrighty, i guess if my symptoms persist I could go take a visit to the doctor see what he thinks but I'm just so tired of going. I don't know if I should be that concerned, The pain isn't constant and it isn't terribly painful, it isn't getting worse either hopefully it's just a slight muscle strain or something

Do you take any medication?  (I mean one that is permanently prescribed - NOT a temporary one like an antibiotic)  If so they ALWAYS do a liver and kidney blood test if you take medication - ALWAYS.  That's why they DO blood tests when on medication to make sure those functions are normal.  (then if they're not they change the medication)  Even if you need tests for job or if you go for an urgent care thing - I never HEARD of a blood test that didn't include liver and kidneys, unless you went for one specific thing like a check for your thyroid function, then they'd only do that.

Well I'm on a Acne prescription and nasal steroid prescription but I don't think that would justify a liver blood test

It doesn't sound like anything serious. Blood test would give you more clear picture although liver issues are highely unlikely...gallbladder is more likely.

Do you take a multivitamin? Those can make things change into weird colors.

If something was REALLY off, it wouldn't be patchy. It would be all pale, and it would be continuous. Not some days. All days.
