Google is Evil
« on: March 25, 2014, 10:33:19 PM »
Stop Googling y'all!  Google and Web Md are the worst websites ever for anyone with HA!  Take a deep breath...watch a funny show...read a good book...call an old friend and shoot the breeze.  No Google. No obsessing: just relaxation.  Trust me you will feel better for it.

Yes - as much as you feel like you NEED to do it or that doing it will help you feel better - it will NOT.

A tumor you actually have?

I have PBC (primary biliary cirrhosis) and the prognosis on it is actually pretty good these days.  But if you google you run across all sorts of information that says you will be a goner in like 5-10 years.

I try not to google anything about my own disease unless I have to find out something specific.

Haha yes coldhands. I have a rectal carcinoid tumor. It's certainly not a death sentence most of the time but google says it is more often than not.

Yikes.  Ok.  Sorry, had to ask haha

My disease is so variable by person that nobody knows for sure.  The thing is over 70% of people do well with the medicines they give and it slows the disease to a crawl,  Some people stay at one stage for most of their life, some progress quicker.  Its a crap shoot.

I think its that way with a lot of diseases.  Some have a more benign course with some and more aggressive with others.

Glad you are staying off of google.  I'm glad I didn't have it when I was younger and my HA was crazy wild.  I would have never left the house and would have probably died of a stroke by now.

Good luck with the tumor.  Are they going to take it out?  Do they treat it?

Google is a bother. I downloaded the WebMD app some time ago for my mom and I used the symptoms part often. For some reason the app is more comforting than the website. The website is pretty much "We're not saying it's cancer but...." while the app just tells me I have stuff like GAD, migranes, panic attacks, etc. I haven't one seen tumors or anything serious.

Google is a headache waiting to happen but this forum is a lot more comforting.

Google wasn't around for me until about 1998 with out first home computer.

No google when I was a child in the 60's.   Yet I had panic then with stomach problems.

Dr. Google has simply made it easy to have myself 6 feet under yesterday.  Crazy.

I haven't googled a symptom in months and I feel better and more in control now. I still get the symptoms of things and worry myself into a crazy reality, but It doesn't last nearly as long now that google isn't there to reinforce it.

I agree... I honestly wish I could go to a hypnotist and just tell them ''Make me forget all about those terrible things that I've googled"

My life was perfectly fine without being told by every med-site on google that if I have an aneurysm I will die in 5 minutes. (And it has no symptoms!)

Dr.Google is the bane of my existence... If it didn't exist I would be a much happier person.. Then again i wouldn't have passed half of my classes. Please help me on how to stop the impulse. It sounds absolutely ridiculous when I see what I'm typing here, but when I get going I can't stop. When I have a symptom, I just can't resist the urge to get on my phone and google  :( Ugh, it's the absolute worst.

Here's a thought...what about getting Net Nanny and setting it to block Google without a special password?  Then have a friend or relative set the password and keep it a secret.  If you need Google for research purposes you can have them come over and unlock it and supervise while you use it FOR SCHOOL ONLY!!!
