afraid i have pagets disease of the breast- please help
« on: March 23, 2014, 04:54:33 PM »
For the past 3 weeks i have a red dry spot on my areola. Not itchy or sore just there. Nipple is fine completely normal. I have seen 11 doctors including dermatologists and a breast specilist. All say it is not Pagets. That it is a skin thing. I have been using cream for the last 3 days that is doing nothing. Why isnt cream working?.  I am so scared. I am already thinking i have cancer running through my entire body and noone is catching it. Please help this anxiety is killing me... Do i believe 11 doctors?

Do you believe 11 Drs?  Absolutely 100%.  After all, they went to medical school, endured residency, and passed their boards.  They know what it looks like not Dr Google.

Seeing 11 Drs in 3 weeks is pretty extreme behavior.  I would urge you to treat your anxiety.

What will it take for you to believe this is nothing? If 11 doctors, including a breast specialist tell you its a skin thing, then you should believe them. Steroid creams (which is probably what you are taking) can take awhile to work. Give it time.

About 2 years ago my daughter was in your spot - she got a dry patch on her areola, she kept googling until she too came up with Paget's disease.  I told her to wait to see if it got bigger or changed.  It did change (forgot how now - I'd have to ask her but she's not home) but at that point she insisted she thought it was going away so she never did go to a doctor - it did go away.  She had it for weeks.  Sounds like the exact thing she had.

I've once had this irritation / dried skin area on my nipple and worried that it was Paget's despite the dermatologist reassuring me it was a benign dermatitis. Mine didn't itch either but sometimes it stung when I was sweating or taking a shower which seemed to drive me up the walls thinking it was cracking. I used cream on it for weeks before it eventually went away. Sometimes cream isn't so fast acting when it comes to eczema. I know those horrid pictures of Paget's disease & I'm pretty sure yours looks NOTHING like them.

Keep an eye on it, sure, but I really doubt you have Paget's, which is a very rare form of cancer to begin with. How old are you?
