Chest pain when touched
« on: March 20, 2014, 03:57:14 PM »
Freaking out a little right now. I found one post about this but I wanted to make sure. I am currently experiencing chest pain when I touch the specific area. Its sort of in the middle of my chest, little to the left below my breast. It feels just like a bruise when I touch it. I have been touching it all day which might be causing it to be more sore when I touch it. I read somewhere that if you can touch it and make it sore, it means its either anxiety or muscoskeletal. Please someone !!!

Sounds muscular/skeletal.   Trigger tender points.
Check your posture and tension.
I have a whacky spine problems and can have those trigger points myself.

I do this all the time. I have a little tenderness and/or soreness somewhere in my chest, ribs or side area and get freaked out about it. I end up pressing down on it so much that by the time I'm done I've created something big out of something small.

If it feels bruise like, I wouldn't worry at all. Just stop poking it.  :laugh3:  And remember, not all contusions can be see or present as visible bruises immediately.

Funny as this sounds ... If I pull away at the skin where its sore its same pain you would get from a pimple. It looks like I have an ingrown hair there. Could that be causing it ?

Absolutely it could be from an ingrown hair. I get those all the time as well. It gets all red and tender and feels kind of like an inflamed zit bubbling its way to the service. In fact, I frequently get those on my chest now that I think about it.

But again, stop poking and prodding at it. From everything you have described, this is nothing to worry about. You're only going to make it worse.

What are you scared it could be?

None of the details you've provided scream anything sinister. Maybe if you tell me what you think it could be, I can help reassure you it isn't.

We're all in this together, and we've all struggled with this HA. That's why we're here.

But everything you've described sounds like a bruise, or an ingrown hair, or perhaps an ingrown hair you've turned into a bruise by poking at it.

If I took my finger and poked at my arm all day, I'd probably have a bruise tomorrow.

How often have you been rubbing, poking, prodding, squeezing the affected area today?

I often get a pain on the left side, mid chest.  It's a deep aching pain and when I press on that area, it will feel exactly like the deep pain.  My doctor said it sounds like costochondritis.  He said if you can press on it and feel pain, it's not heart related.

I can definitely press it and feel something. It feels sore, like when you workout and your muscle is sore but i didn't do any exercise. I touched it and pressed for hours yesterday so yeah not sure if that would cause it to be sore. It still sore today.... I'm scared it has something to do with my heart. Are we sure to say that if it's sore when touched it's not heart related ?

I've had two different doctors tell me that as well as a fitness trainer.

I'm sure if it was heart related you would have many other symptoms.  The fact that it hurts to the touch definitely sounds muscular.  :)

I also have shoulder soreness but other than that nothing else. I had nausea for the past month but surprisingly once I started obsessing about this yesterday my nausea is gone ! LOL

Funny I didn't have any shoulder soreness yesterday but I guess I started obsessing with that area and it started. Heart wouldn't cause soreness in my shoulder would it ?
