Throat swelling
« on: March 13, 2014, 10:05:04 PM »
I often have the feeling that my throat is swelling shut. It feels very real, but it has never actually closed off all the way, even though on one occasion I was sure I was going to die from it. It's not so much the "lump in the throat" described when talking about globus hystericus. It just feels like the whole thing is warm and puffy and swelling shut. Voice gets hoarse sometimes, too when this is happening. I do have constant post nasal drip, could this cause it? Or have others experienced this as an anxiety symptom? I would go the the dr. but they never take me seriously anymore. Thanks!

Its anxiety. I have the same thing happen sometimes especially if I'm trying out a new medication for something. Since I started having anxiety every time I take any sort of new medication within minutes I'll start feeling like my throat is closing and it get's hard to swallow. Drinking some water usually helps with swallowing and taking some deep breaths through your mouth or nose should help calm you down since you'll see that your able to breathe just fine.
