Can x-ray detect a tumor???
« on: March 08, 2014, 07:13:37 PM »
For about a year or so I have been having leg, knee, heel pain. 6 months ago I went to see a specialist and he took a x-ray of my spine and legs. There was nothing to be seen? Everything looked normal. Now i am worried that I have a bone cancer or something like that. I had so many tests that I am literally going crazy. I am 20 weeks pregnant and have to wait until this is all over to do more tests ( and I can't stress about this either) but I am wondering if he missed something? I just don't know how to deal with this. Any advice would be appreciated.
Btw I am 31 and have anxiety for about 2 years now!! No madication it just comes and goes whenever it feels like it.....so I deal with it.

X-rays usually detect most cancers and wld at least notice anything odd,...so yours was normal I wld imagine you are fine,....bone cancer is quite rare and usually a secondary cancer .....I dont think its cancer , cld be all sorts of things have you been to a chiro or pysio ?

I agree with ana - go to a chiropractor. Chiropractic care can be AMAZING during pregnancy! If anything, it might take away some of the pain you're having and help you to relax by relieving stress. Most chiropractic offices will work with you if your insurance won't cover it or if you have a high deductible.

My go told me that although x-rays wouldn't show tumours, they would show some abnormalities like shadowing, which would warrant further tests.

Thank you for your replies it really puts my mind at ease. I did get a referral to see a physical therapist from my orthopedic. I will try that first and chiropractor next if nothing.

xrays can sometimes detect tumors, but depends on the location in the body, usually it just shows maybe shadows or pressure being put on certain areas. if you look at an xray of the chest though, you can see why xrays will usually find a lung tumor.

If the mass is dense enough it can show on the X-ray. Often there is shadowing though and something that looks like its there but shouldn't be.
