Shooting pain in chest when you take a deep breath?!
« on: March 02, 2014, 11:03:01 PM »
Sorry for my frequent post here, i was just wondering have you also experienced a sudden shooting pain in your chest when you try to take a very deep breath especially on the inhale part where your abdomen and chest expands and suddenly you felt a shooting pain that only lasts for nano seconds after you deep inhale then it's gone. whether you are lying down or standing? Or more like you are trying to do a heavy breathing something like that.  :fragend005:

I have noticed this quite often if I twist wrong and it can go on or like half a day, Sometimes I won't even twist wrong at all, I'll take a deep breath and I feel like I'm getting speared in the sternum, makes you not want to take a deep breath. sometimes I force deep breath out of frustration. I haven't quite come to a conclusion of what might cause it, it's not anything serious, I'm not even sure it's a type of strain... Just something with how the diaphragm and chest expand and it's tickling a nerve.

Hi! I get this too, and was eventually diagnosed with something called costochondritis/tietze's syndrome (tietze's is more in your ribs). It's nothing too serious at all, but I know it can be really scary. My pain is definitely triggered by breathing in too deep as well. But even if that's not what you have, don't worry too much, it only makes things worse. you'll be alright! hope you feel better soon hun <3

It sounds like Precordial Catch Syndrome.

Quote
PCS manifests itself as a very intense, sharp pain, typically at the left side of the chest, generally in the cartilage between the bones of the sternum and rib cage, which is worse when taking breaths. Patients often think that they are having a heart attack which causes them to panic. This pain typically lasts from 2 or 3 seconds to a few minutes, though, in some cases, they can persist for up to 30 minutes.

We aren't sure what causes it. All we know for sure is its absolutely harmless.

or simply a faulty signal by a nerve as a symptom of stress.

Probably GI related or muscular in nature.

I could definitely relate to that. It's amazing how nerves and the brain work.
