Really Angry- Insurance Company
« on: February 27, 2014, 06:11:40 PM »
So, after I took the step of seeking out a psychiatrist, went to the visit, began treatment, a month later my insurance company does not want to pay for it.
I checked my benefits beforehand, got all the preauthorization I needed, everything like that. I went to a doctor that was referred from my insurance's website.

When I asked why they couldn't pay for it, they state that they do not cover "serious mental illness." Anxiety is not listed as a serious mental illness even in their own definitions.

This is pushing my anxiety sky-high, and I'm afraid I might actually be driven to "serious mental illness."  I have enough going on and now this. I will not be able to afford visits without insurance.

Very angry, sad, and frustrated. Needed to complain.

Hi, I can empathize with you...I was seeing a therapist for a little while, but then I had to change insurance because my husband lost dependent coverage at work, so with my own individual insurance I had a higher deductible which made my co-pay for the therapist $80.00!  So, I made the decision to stop seeing my therapist based on the fact that I didn't think I had the luxury to see her anymore since the cost of the co-pay was out of my budget.  I just thought it was ludicrous to pay a little over $300.00 a month for insurance, plus $80.00 each visit.

The 'business' of healthcare in this country has become a sad affair....they seem to have forgotten the person (patient) and only care about the bottom line, which is a darn shame to say the least.

My copay jumped to $40 when my job switched insurance companies. Apparently she is a specialist so they get to charge me a higher copay.  :fragend005:
