I'll provide some history and go from there, any advice comments or related stories are welcome.
First anxiety/panic attack was about 4 years ago, I am now 23. My symptoms at the time were related to chest pains, heart palpitation and
a racing heart beat. The symptoms seemed to last all day at the time and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. I found help by going to the ER (I have no family doc) and getting bloodwork, xrays of the chest and an ekg. Tests came back normal, but the anxiety remained. I was referred to a psychologist who prescribed ativan to help me relax. It did help somewhat, but time and positive thinking was probably what got me out of that. In all it lasted about 2 months getting better gradually towards the end. I have had mini attacks since then, but nothing uncontrollable.
I was a drinker(4-6 beers a day) for about a year until about a month ago I decided to cut the chain and clean up my act. Also my occupation is currently in jeopardy. SOOO anyways, about a week ago I decided to let loose and have some beer. That night I had a sudden feeling like I was out of breath. It almost feels as if I have mucus stuck in my lungs and can't cough it out. This got me a bit nervous but I managed to come myself down so I could fall asleep. The next two days it was off and on. Bought some phlegm and mucus cough syrup to rule out a simple cough. Yesterday was the worst so far... I woke up in a fit of breathlessness, went to work breathless and had to leave early to go the ER. I could no longer convince myself that it was just a panic attack. Bloodwork, chest xrays and ekg all came back normal. Got referred to a psychologist again. I know I should feel better and I know breathlessness is common for panic attacks, but I can't let this one go so easily for some reason. I won't be able to see the psychologist till the 26th of march. Has anybody else had this feeling of shortness of breath and the need to clear your lungs/throat? (and have it last all day? or atleast most of it?)
