Lyme's...um...
« on: February 18, 2014, 03:16:19 PM »
Hey!

So, i posted about this a little while ago, so let me recap for a sec:

I was recently tested for lymes disease. First, it came back "overall negitive, but possibly a little positive". Say what??

My doctor explained that it had to do with the fact that the western blot test that is currently used for lymes is so hyper specific that it will pick up any--whatever that means. Any way, she retested with another test, I guess a deciding factor kind of a thing, and that was totally normal. So, she concluded that I didn't have lymes disese.

Yay?

The thing is, I've read up a little about it and so I know lymes is sort of hard to diagnose. Should I persue additional testing because part of it was infact positive? I've heard of people being diagnosed with lymes when all their tests are negitive, so what gives?? Its one of those sneaking weird things.

So, if anyone has any lymes ideas do let me know.

Hi,

I think you're totally ok. Your doctor rechecked your antibodies for lyme disease and that came out normal. I would rest my mind and close this chapter. Please don't google and fall in the vicious cycle.

Wish you well,
Tal

The western blot will also tell if you've ever had Lyme so you may want to ask your doc if the figure indicates current Lyme or a past instance of Lyme.  At least this is what my doc told me - waiting the results for my Lyme test as we speak.  Hopefully I'll get results today.

If the second test was negative, I wouldn't worry. I've had a questionable pap (It was neither positive nor negative) and the doctor had to retest (it that was normal). I tested positive for crystals in my urine but after drinking more water for a week, the crystals vanished. Doctor will retest if results don't come up either positive or negative.

Thankx peeps,

I Think I'm just going to try and stop thinking about it...

I'm just convincing my self that the two possibilities are that 1. I had lymes and now i don't, or 2. I never had it at all, and frankly I'm fine with both of those.
