Single "hive" on elbow
« on: February 10, 2014, 08:53:24 AM »
I have a single, large, itchy hive (looks like a mosquito bite -- but it's the dead of winter. I can't see any bite marks either.) on my elbow, just to the left of the bone.

Could this be from rubbing clothes, or is it a tell-tale sign of some life-threatening allergic reaction?

I dont' think it's a life threatening allergy.  I sometimes get pressure hives in one spot.  That may be what you have.

I get those things a lot. They're annoying but harmless. Tend to always happen in winter. Unless it starts doing something weird, like turning to one of those "This can't possibly be a good color" colors, or starts bleeding or some other strangeness, there's no need to worry.

I get those on my cheek at times.  No idea where it comes from.  I always used to hear that anxiety and stress could bring them out.  I chalk mine up to that.  Sometimes I'll think it's almost gone then there it is again, came right back up.

Update -- The one on my right elbow has disappeared completely, but this morning I woke up with one on my right knee!

?????

Is this from rubbing during the night? Some sort of insect..? The cold? It doesn't seem like fleas or bed bugs because it's just one, solitary, mosquito-esque bite. And no bite marks... and it's under my clothes.

(Thanks for the replies!)

I've had this ssme exact thing!! I'm convinced it's from anxiety/stress. Even if you aren't feeling stressed or anxious, you can get this I think from one/both of those things. It definitely makes sense. It freaked me out at first but after nearly a week with these random spots that aren't actually like typical hives and after researching a little, I'm starting to calm down. They better go away soon.

Could be a mosquito came in to live with you during the winter.  I just chased one out of my bedroom a couple of nights ago.

I woke today with a big red welt on my neck right where the neck meets the shoulder.  I can feel a bunch of little bumps on it.  Yesterday I found a neckalce in my purse that I'd taken off for an MRI and once we got it untwisted, I put it on (already had a necklace on) and meant to take it off when I got home. They were both under a turtleneck and I worked the fall festival in 192 heat with that and a button up sweater vest.  I'm allergic to any thing but real gold so usually put my necklaces outside my clothing.  I'm sure mine is an allergic reaction.

However.......... we had a warm snap and yellow jackets were swarming near the ground and Asian Beetles (think small golden brown lady bugs) were biting everyone!  We have also had mosquitoes in our house.  Mosquitoe larvae don't die during the winter. A warm day and some moisture and they can emerge and bite. That's why we're told to treat dogs for heartworms year round.

Anyhow,  I had HIVES about 2 months ago just from anxiety. Doc gave me some hydro something pills. I was covered in them but one pill and they were gone. Didn't come back, either!
