Worried this could be something serious
« on: February 03, 2014, 05:33:46 PM »
Hey everyone

Recently I've noticed blood coming from my nose. It's not in massive quantities or frequent but when I blow my nose I've noticed more and more of my mucus has blood in it. And I get small nose bleeds, they don't last very long, I had one just now and only a little bit of blood came out.
It's not entirely restricted to one nostril but it happens mostly to my right one.

My nose also gets blocked up and I can feel mucus in my throat. Although this mostly happens at night, I dont notice it in the day.

I've always had nose bleeds more frequently than others but recently I've just noticed blood more often. I'm worried it could be something more serious, should I mention something to my parents? I'm 17 years old, never smoked and hardly drank, never enough to be drunk anyway.

What should I do? I'm not sure whether it's serious enough to go to the doctors about.

It's the cold dry air. I've had blood in my post nasal drip for two months now. It only comes from one of my nostrils. Ent said its very common this time of year. Your fine. Use a Netty pit with distiller water to add moisture to nasal passages but I caution you as a hypochondriac to use distilled water.

Where do you live?  It's been so COLD in so many parts of the country - RECORD breaking cold!  The heat goes on more and dries out your sinuses.  That bleeding thing happens to my husband when it's really dry in the house.  AND his nose stuffs up at night, it's all connected.

Thanks for the replies everyone

I live in the UK and it has been freezing over here!
As I said my nose is fine most of the time during the day, I usually notice it at night :)
Thank you for putting me at ease guys! :)
