It's an actual ache, or just plugged/stuffed?
Last year I had the flu which turned right into bronchitis. My one ear (Eustachian tube) was plugged for almost a month.

I had fluid trapped behind my eardrum for almost 5 months after having a cold and nothing worked to get rid of it, I finally caved and bought an EarPopper and it took a little over 3 weeks but it worked

Its an ear ache my dr said its because I have a lot of fluid and its not draining because of my sinuses with all this crazy weather. I just been getting worried cuz its been two weeks on Sudafed and it still hurts.

Unfortunately, decongestants ie Sudafed, did not work for me. What did was Nasonex and a Neti Pot. I don't know if this would be prescribed to you for your particular case. But I'd think if the Sudafed isn't working after 2 weeks, it may not.

Im switching to claritin today gonna try it. It worked for a friend of mine. Just scares me that its something more serious because I have a swollen lymph node behind the ear that hurts.

It was terrible, I constantly had a loud hum in my ear and a lot of times I would be very off balance almost like I was drunk all the time. I tried everything from nasal/ oral steroids, sinus rinses, steam, quit smoking. You name it, nothing worked. I googled until I couldn't stand myself anymore and came across a little gadget called the Earpopper. It's a thing that blows air up your nose as you swallow a sip of water, it pops your ears and when you swallow the water it forces your Eustachian tubes to open to drain fluid. I swear by it!! If your sinuses are inflamed ask your dr about pulmicort sinus rinse. I hear it's very effective too.

Hopefully Claritin works for you, it didn't for me. And to answer your main question yes just fluid can cause ear pain. Keep an eye on the pain. If it gets bad see your doctor for infection, and if behind your ear gets really sore and turns red or purple run, don't walk to your doctor. That usually means the bones in your ear are infected. It's rare but does happen ( did to me ) usually fluid will clear up on its own with no issues but after 3 months if it's not moving you will need to see an ENT and possibly have the fluid drained via a myringotomy. Good luck!!  :happy0151:

Thank you guys. I guess I am just seeking reassurance that this is just a common problem that people have this time of year and not something sinister.
