the articles not working, but all that means is the people in the study who had cancer 80% of the group study also had acid reflux. which is a very common thing.

Correct url: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/frequent-heartburn-raises-throat-cancer-risk-80-percent-study-finds/

They wouldn't do a statistical study without a control group (correlation is not causation). The article is basically saying that GERD is linked to an increase risk of throat cancer and that use of antacids helps reduce that risk in subjects with already existing GERD.

Right and thats my concern. Since I have gerd (almost daily) how high is my risk of those cancers. Is it still a relatively low or should I start to worry?

Depends on your age and length of having GERD I'd imagine.

I try not to read studies for this very reason. Also gerd is so common that I wonder if the findings aren't incidental to some degree, I wonder what percentage of the general population has it? Besides not all studies are equal, I wouldn't get to hung up on this.

Just look at it this way if it was that big of a deal breaker way more people would have cancer. acid reflux and heart burn are very common things. It shows that there is a higher risk than people who dont have it, but almost everything is a risk factor for cancer.
