intrusive thoughts.......
« on: January 16, 2014, 02:59:20 PM »
I have been getting intense intrusive thoughts about awful images which dont make sense.  Can thoughts make you go mad or make you feel like you cannot live with this image in your head? x

Hi Kath...

Intrusive/negative thoughts are common with anxiety and the GAD syndrome.  I have also had some severe ones over the last few months.  Often times the symptoms of anxiety and the intrusive thoughts may provide a focus that one is about to go mad, but that doesn't happen.  The fact is, we are so much more than our thoughts and our apparent physical symptoms.

You are the person that you are, and the intrusive thoughts will not change that.

It is not easy to do, but each time an intrusive thought enters your mind, do your best to stop and replace it with a positive thought.  Find something beautiful in life, each and everyday, something to be grateful for, and don't forget to laugh.

The very best to you, Kath!...  Chuck

Hi.I get intrusive thoughts and sometimes images too. They are sometimes of a unpleasant nature.I try to to not conciously focus on them and tell myself over and over three or so times this statement. These are just my thoughts and feelings, allow them to pass through your mind.No emotional reaction is needed. It took me a number of weeks to notice any affects of doing this.

I have read that if these thoughts, images cause an intense emotional reaction, then the sub concious mind gets drawn back to those thoughts and images.Almost like a moth to a flame.Reducing the emotional reaction to these thoughts and images has helped me and I find myself having less reoccuring thoughts and unplessant images.
