Women, anxiety and cycles
« on: January 16, 2014, 08:00:52 AM »
I've begun tracking when anxiety gets bad. I noticed that it appears to worst slightly before or around ovulation. Never had issues this bad with ovulation. (Period is another story) I'm 42 and understand my hormones are starting to get wonky. Is this common?

Mercifully I am well past hormones and their tricks. You may want to address this with your ob/gyn to see what meds might be available to get you past some difficult times.

Otherwise, just being aware that cycles can be troublesome, but realizing they pass, can ease the issues for you. Gentle exercise such as yoga, or tai chi, or just walking may help. Wishing you the best.

It definitely happens. I never used to have an issue with hormone fluctuations affecting my mood, but ever since I had my daughter my hormones have been off kilter.  I get worsened anxiety and significant irritability premenstrually. For me lasts about 4-5 days. This time around I had increased depressive symptoms. My lexapro has helped my day to day anxiety and mood but hasn't touched these fluctuations. I'm 31 and I've started Seasonique, the birth control pill, so I'm hoping this starts to level things off. I've also been on a low dose progesterone cream which helped for a couple months, I'm not noticing the benefits as much lately however.
