What Would Make Your HA Stop?
« on: January 10, 2014, 09:29:17 AM »
Just a question of curiosity but what would make your HA stop and not return?

What test or doctor's appointment would make you finally say "I'm OK.  I know and totally accept, consciously and unconsciously, that I'm going to be fine because I don't have [insert HA worry here]."

LOL.  The question does make you think (or should at least).  I mean we all want HA to go away, but what information would it take to actually make that happen?

With me it travels lol I could be convinced I have one thing then it will change over a few days to another major thing. I don't think it's always possible to just stop you need to believe and fully understand it's your anxiety and not cancer or blood clot etc. CBT helps I would go to docs then 2 weeks later I would be like well why am I still having these symptoms but you just need to learn and trust the professional. My biggest fear is death so the illness I worry about are cancer, blood clot, heart attack etc. You should try look at death with a more open mind it as helped me I read somewhere we were not here before we were born and we didn't worry about been born but we see death as nearly taboo and the idea of not existing is beyond thinking about. But how do we know what happens? No one knows and until it happens they can't tell people lol the one thing in life is the guartentee you will die so instead of fearing it try accept it's part of life. If you look at things in different ways your HA should reduce and eventually it will be a thing of the past but you need to have that belief first otherwise it's a viscous circle. I hope that makes sense? :)

Well right now I am awaiting MRI results as I'm worried I have a brain tumour. However, even with good results I worry that they've missed something or I will then start pondering as to what is causing my headaches :-(

Mine only goes away when I sleep. But I hate sleeping it off because I feel like that is giving up, but sometimes it gets too overwhelming.

@vassalus I know what you mean. We forget when we sleep and it's such a release until we wake and it all comes flooding back...

I'm thinking Xanax at this point since I can't seem to control it otherwise.

Amen Marc!! I think that is really the root problem- things that are out of our control terrify us.

I think for me it would have to be a life where I am able to get back to intense physical activity and to have more structure, balance, social interaction and not so much idle free time alone with my thoughts.

I've had HA on and off for years, usually short, acute periods, but when I injured my leg playing basketball several years ago things went downhill and my HA became more long term, sometimes chronic. Afterward, numerous sports/RSI injuries, bouts of sciatic/lower back pain, periods of chronic discomfort and pain, less and less physical activity, resulted in me focusing more and more on my health and having thoughts that I could never get healthy and fit again.

I would like to say a full body MRI but I bet that wouldn't even help me in the grand scheme of things

Being completely symptom free.

Me too, this is a good answer. When I'm not having any symptoms of anything, I'm usually fine. Sure a sudden sharp pain in my head or something may have me a little on edge for a day or so, but usually as long as I feel pretty normal my HA is completely dormant.

Having no major concerning symptoms such as those nasty lumps, unintentional weight  loss, weakness, etc. Sigh. :(

I wish a pill could just be readily available in the near future in which we can just take and COMPLETELY eradicate the HA demon.  :dazed:
